Airbnb’s New Pitch to Cities: We Are Serious About Working Together

The new Airbnb Policy Tool Chest revealed on December 7 outlines Airbnb’s approach to working with cities to regulate short-term rentals. Airbnb’s four-pronged approach includes working with regulators regarding collecting taxes, addressing community concerns about STRs, setting home-sharing limitations, and sharing data with local governments. The company plans to use its recent settlement with the city of New Orleans, where Airbnb agreed to share hosts’ data and set limits on hosts who offer their whole home, as a model for cooperating with other cities in the future. With the Airbnb Policy Tool Chest, Airbnb is showing its growing commitment to working with cities to create sensible regulations.
