Expedia Hits Pause on Direct Booking Goals for HomeAway Division

Expedia has put on hold its goal of making all rental properties listed on HomeAway bookable online. While guest prefer booking online, some homeowners oppose this feature, since it only gives them 24 hours to vet potential guests.

“‘We are not as focused on getting every single property online bookable at this point,’ [Expedia CEO Dara] Khosrowshahi said.”

Instead, the focus is on optimizing the search engine for the HomeAway family of sites and adding apartments rentals to Expedia’s sites to stay competitive with companies like Booking.com and Airbnb.
